  • The intake of healthy carbohydrates must also be increased. Multi- grain bread, brown rice, fresh fruits, wheat bread, potatoes, and dry fruits must be consumed. Dry fruits such as mango and banana give very good carbohydrates.
  • For weight gain, the weight gain diet for girls must include some fatty food as well. These foods include sunflower oil, olive oil, oily fish such as mackerel and tuna and avocados. These should be included in the diet in very low proportions. 
  • The fluid intake must also be increased considerably. Fruit juices, milk shakes, smoothies and healthy drinks must also be included in the daily diet. Fluids must be taken before or after meals. However, the food intake will not be affected if fluids are taken after meals. 
  • Girls must make sure that alcohol is avoided. A check on caffeinated drinks such as tea and coffee must be kept. Only calories are added for giving unhealthy weight.
  • Fruits, steak, vegetables, chicken, cheese and assorted nuts are very appropriate in the diet for weight gain. 
  • Girls must switch to healthy snacking habits. A perfect snack would be a combination of apple, handful of nuts and a glass of milk. These can be taken between two meals. Instead of sodas, smoothies and natural fruit drinks must be consumed. 
  • Multigrain breads, pastas and whole grains must be added to the daily diet.
