There is a soft tissue inside the bones and this is also known as bone marrow. The immature cells form these soft tissues and these are known as the stem cells. Bone marrow cancer is not a contagious disease. However, no one knows the exact cause of it. Even the doctors are not able to explain the reason behind developing bone cancer. Since, the causes of bone cancer are not known, prevention is very difficult. Even the risk factors of bone marrow cancer cannot be avoided as there are several hereditary and degenerative diseases that are mainly responsible for this type of cancer.

Various tumors that infest themselves in the bone cancer tissue are responsible for triggering the pain. The causes of bone cancer are not defined and it is still not clear as to why some people develop it and why some of them escape.  Given below are some causes of bone cancer:

Causes of bone cancer

The classification of bone cancer can be done as primary and secondary. The origination of primary bone cancer is found in the bone tissue and from there it spreads to other bones. Whereas the origination of secondary bone cancer is found somewhere else i.e. kidney, lung and prostate. Later it is disseminated to the bones. The causes include
  • If a person has been suffering from a very chronic condition of the bone
  • If there are some cases of bone cancer in the family history
  • If chemotherapy sessions are undergone previously
  • If the birth of the child is with umbilical hernia
  • If there is an occurrence of a fault in the stem cell’s DNA
  • If there has been an exposure of the person to high radiation
  • If a child is below five years of age and is affected by retinoblastoma
  • In the old age, people are more susceptible to various degenerative diseases. Thus, they become more prone to bone cancer
  • Sometimes if a person suffers from Li-Fraumeni syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, there are chances of developing bone cancer
The prevention of many cases of bone marrow cancer is not in a person’s hands. However, some precautionary measures can be taken for reducing the chances of its occurrence. Thus, one must be aware of the causes of bone cancer.
