For a bald person,What Are the Potential Side Effects of Hair Transplant? Articles a hair transplant is a miracle solution. It is the only permanent way to get the hair back. The possibility of having the hairstyle of choice is too tempting to miss. But like most good things, it does come with a baggage. There are certain side effects that are associated with it. While most of them are temporary, some are of permanent nature as well. We shall discuss these side effects in the following paras.

Infection

The first and foremost risk after a hair transplant surgery is that of an infection. This risk is heightened in a strip method transplant since there is a large incision that is made at the back of the head. To counter this possibility, it is important that medications prescribed by the surgeon are taken after a transplant.

Swelling

Swelling in the scalp is quite common after a transplant. It takes place since there is a lot of needle work that takes place during a hair transplant procedure. It is only temporary and some rest along with anti-inflammatory drugs is the perfect solution.

Shock Loss

Hair transplant surgery is kind of a trauma for the scalp. As a reaction to this unusual event, some healthy follicles are lost from the donor and recipient site. This is only a temporary problem as they grow back in a few months. However, in the unlikely case of transection during the surgery or miniaturization of these follicles, these may not grow back.

Scarring

Scars are left after a hair transplant surgery. The nature and extent of these scars depends on the kind of procedure that is being performed. In case of a strip method transplant, a long linear scar is left at the back of the head. In Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), small pin hole scars are left afterwards. In newer, more advanced versions of FUE hair restoration such as Stem Cell FUE, the scars are even smaller. With normal length hair, these scars can be easily covered.

Itching

As the new hair are growing, they do cause some itching. This is generally a problem that one faces three months after the transplant. Once the hair have grown to normal length which takes a few more months, the itching goes away.
