What is Colonics

Thanks to Hollywood, colonics became a celebrity trend that is now endorsed by many holistic and conventional health care practitioners. Now, more than ever, we can start talking about colonics, a practice that is changing the way we think about our health.

So, what is colonics?  Basically, colonics, often referred to also as colon hydrotherapy or colon irrigation, is the practice of removing waste and excess toxins from the colon. Warm, purified water is circulated through the tube, filling the colon and stimulating the body’s natural peristalsis, which is the process that allows waste to be moved through the colon to be eliminated.

The colonics procedure includes a series of “fills” and “releases,” during which the Colon Hydrotherapist (CHT) fills the client with water and releases the water. The releasing process allows the excess, hardened waste to be passed through the colon and out the tube, where it is eliminated directly into a sewage system. Most clinics that practice colon hydrotherapy used a closed, sanitary system, which means there is no mess or odor or chance of airborne toxins being released.

A typical session lasts approximately 40-45 minutes.  After a colonic, most individuals can carry out their daily activities as they normally would. Many clients even report feeling energized, lighter, more mental clarity and in a better mood after a colonic.

A series of colonics is recommended as part of a detox program that includes eliminating meat, dairy, caffeine, and alcohol from the diet as well as taking detox supplements that aid in digestion and elimination. Since all waste and toxins must pass through the colon to be eliminated, colonics are the cornerstone of an effective detox experience.

Getting a colonic is like a much needed oil change for your car.  Just like you change the oil in your car every month or two, the colon needs regular maintenance in order to run at optimal performance.
