Imagine if you have spent the last few months successfully getting rid of bacterial vaginosis and only to find out that it is back again. And this time,What You Can Do to Treat Recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis Articles it is back with a vengeance with terrible burning and pain!

In some cases, sexual intercourse can be really painful for the woman, and some may just shy away from it.

A recurrence of bacterial vaginosis is common among sufferers. According to a report by Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, as high as 77% of women who tried to treat bv with pharmaceutical antibiotics are reported to have suffered from a recurrence of bacterial vaginosis!

If bv returned again in a matter of weeks after successful treatment previously, it is most likely due to the old infection. It was not completely treated previously. But if it returned after a few months, then more likely it is due to a new infection.

Here are some of the common factors that causes a recurrence of bacterial vaginosis.

Use of Metronidazole

Recurrence of bacterial vaginosis are widely reported by women who took Metronidazole as their first treatment. Metronidazole is marketed by Pfizer in the United States under the name Flagyl. Because Metronidazole is an antibiotic, it kills all the bacterias in the vagina, both good and bad. The problem is that once you stopped taking Metronidazole, bacteria vaginosis will most likely return. This is because antibiotics are only a short term measure.

Unbalanced Diet

We all know what a good and balanced diet is crucial towards having a healthy life. This applies to bacterial vaginosis too. If you have a diet that is high in sugar, soy and dairy products, it is most likely to encourage the growth of bad bacterias inside your vagina, leading to bv.

A well balanced diet should contain a good amount of vitamins and minerals that keep your body's immune strong and encourage active growth of the good bacterias in the vagina.

Change of Sex Partner

If you have suffered, and successfully cured bacterial vaginosis previously, there are high chances that it may come back to haunt you again if you have changed your sex partner recently. It is a good idea to have your new partner checked for any infections that he might have. This can be either at his private areas or also the areas near his mouth, if you practice oral sex.
