Mucha produced a series of works related to the seasons which contained several portraits together in a way that really showed his excellent use of colour and it was around this time that a lot of artists chose to produce related series of paintings which was relatively rare during more traditional artistic times of the Renaissance and previously. Mucha used several models frequently and like most artists he would find several which he favoured strongly and would get them in for his most important paintings, always knowing which one them would best suit the next work that he was planning.
Sarah Bernhadt was an actress who links closely into the career of Mucha during his time spent in Paris where the artist was building his reputation which was eventually to spread all across the world.
