Powered by variant techniques, a radio control car can be categorized as ‘electric’ or ‘nitro’ toy car. The electric car runs over a powerful electric motor and rechargeable battery. Two different options of brushed and brushless motors are available in this division. The ‘nitro’ version of a car is fuel powered. It uses a glow-plug engine which is fuelled b which is fuelled by a special blend of oil containing nitro methane, and therefore the etymology of its name. Also, a gasoline model of a car is introduced, which is exceptionally huge by virtue of its size. It has an approximation of a string trimmer motor that consumes a mixture of gasoline and oil.

If one is a novice, an electric motored radio control car is a better choice over a fuel driven one. But, one thing must be taken for granted that a higher budget electric model will be skill demanding and pretty complex in nature too.

On road and off road models of a radio control car are available in both the above classified categories. The demarcating line is drawn between the two because of terrain usage. Where an off road model of a car can be driven on various types of terrains, an on road one is restricted to smooth and paved surfaces alone. The difference lies in the suspensions; a fully functional off-road suspension with a wide tire selection for the former whereas a less robust suspension for the latter.

Toy grade models of a car are also available, where “toy” does not stand for the conventional meaning but, points to the “Radio shack cars”. These are primarily pre-assembled vehicles exhibited usually in hobby shops, working for the target market of youngsters. 

Realistic interiors with opening windows and doors, enchanting sounds, functional lights are some of those features of a radio control car which are hard to resist; they surely call for youngsters’ appeal.

Recent technological advancements in the field of radio control cars have proved to cast a spell over the hobbyists’ minds. Usage of magnetic brakes, featuring the capability to do feats such as standing back flips, pulsed voltage, electronic speed controllers are some, to name a few.
