A quick guide on getting your grill out of its long winter hibernation with a quick cleaning for the summer grilling period.

Assuming you’ve got fuel, giving your grill a quick cleaning is the first step in the pre-summer prep. To start, simply heat the grill on high with the lid closed for ten to fifteen minutes to burn off all the food particles and grease that’s been stuck on the grates on the grates.  Next allow the grill to cool completely and brush down the grates with a brass grill brush.  Remove the flavorizer bars, soak and clean with soap and water, and allow them to dry, alternatively these could also be cleaned in the dishwasher.  After you’ve done that, scoop out and clean the sides and bottom of the grill with soap, water, and a plastic brush.  Finally, clean out the grease trap and allow the grill to dry completely.  When that’s complete reassemble the grill.  See how easy that was, now the cleaning process is complete.

Just to make sure the grill is completely dry it doesn't hurt to fire it up for a few minutes and let all the moisture out, also, as a precautionary step to keep rust at bay, a light coat of oil goes a long way.  After the grill has cooled down it’s a good idea to give any stainless steel parts a light coating of cooking spray or canola oil. This will help with preventing rust from forming and make the exterior easier to clean in the future.  That's it, you're done.  Now you can hit the grocery store and start planning your next outdoor bbq.
