It is not necessary for new-comers to astronomy to worry about using telescopes for beginners; they can begin with binoculars. The first thing these people will learn about are the constellations. This is a complex and expensive hobby and people should not rush into spending too much money before they are sure they will be involved in it for a long time.

A strong pair of binoculars will be sufficient to view the skies at night. Joining an astronomy club will be helpful as new people can network with more experienced people at the club. Some of these clubs will rent out equipment that people can view the stars and galaxies with. New people will be able to learn much from the more experienced people at the club.

The Hubble is used to take pictures that are often seen in books and magazines. A small scope will suffice for people to be able to view the moon. This is all very interesting for new comers as they begin to see the craters, moon, seas and mountains. There is so much new and interesting information that new people can learn about.

The moon is best viewed when it is in the first and last quarter. Many people think that it is best to view the moon when it is full, however this is not true. Mercury is situated very near to the sun and this makes it very difficult to see. Viewing Saturn requires the best equipment available due to the fact that it is a very small planet.

Mars can be disappointing when people view it for the first time. Mars is relatively speaking a small planet so most often the detail on the planet cannot be picked up. Two months of the year Mars is nearer to earth and then more detail can be seen.

Even with telescopes for beginners not much can be seen on Mars and at most, all that will be seen is a white polar cap. For the most part surface markings on the planet will not be visible. Mars appears to be as small as a tennis ball when people view this planet.
