If you, like me, spend a lot of time in your garage you really want it to be a pleasant environment; somewhere where it is a pleasure to work and to spend time. If it is a mess then you will lose the enjoyment of working there. In this article I look at some simple and easy ways to organise your garage along with some garage storage solutions. I have taken my garage in hand and have never looked back since!

Was I burgled? Or did I leave my garage in this mess? Do you ever find yourself wondering that? If like me,Making your garage a better place – garage storage solutions Articles you are familiar with that feeling and have a garage with hand tools spread from one end to the other, then we have two choices. You could either build a bigger garage (until you run out of garden space) or you could take the cheaper option and invest in suitable garage storage solutions.  At the end of the day, if your garage isnt a joy to work in, you wont want to spend time in it.

There are some easy solutions like hanging plywood on the wall to hook your tools on. My dad likes to draw around each tool too. Its easy to keep track of where each tool belongs and if anything is out on loan and needs to be returned! Some people say to me that a one year rule is the easiest way to keep a tidy garage. If something hasnt been used for a whole year then you probably dont need it at all. I hate that though. I like to keep things in case they are ever useful. Thats why I prefer to invest in suitable garage storage solutions.

Make sure you have the right tool box, that is the easiest thing you can do, then think about cabinets. Either wall mounted or on the floor, the main thing you should be looking out for us a sturdy cabinet. These days they often come with a hook board so you can hang your tools behind a locked door.

Storage bins are another way to keep your garage tidy. Before you buy them, think about what you will be storing since they come in all shapes and sizes. A plastic bin will be suitable storing most things in your garage. If you want to store your power tools though you might want to think about a more robust metal storage bin.

By ensuring that you have a tidy garage it once again becomes a joy to work in. One of the best things I found from organising my garage was how many tools I found that I have. I have found things that havent been used in years and now I have the right tool for almost any job. Being able to work in the garage without falling over things has been another great result since I did the work.

Finally, make sure that anything that doesnt have a place in your garage isnt in there. Fridges, freezers, tumble driers... these things all belong in the kitchen, not your garage! White goods are taking up space that you should be using for your garage storage solutions. Unless you are lucky enough to live somewhere with year round good weather you will probably need to work inside the garage in the winter months so you need room to work around a vehicle.
