Many folks who are shopping for new lenses for their cameras often shop for used lenses in an effort to save money.  It's easy to see why since a lot of lenses can cost nearly as much as the camera did.  Buying used lenses, however, may not always be such a good idea since you never really know how they were maintained.  Keep in mind that the important parts are on the inside of the lens.  Even though the lens may look great on the outside, the interior may be shot.

Many people view refurbished lenses as a much better way to buy lenses for less than retail.  While it's true that you can get some great deals this way, you still have to be very careful.  You have to be absolutely sure that Canon was the company that did the work on the lens.  If another company rebuilt it, it's hard to say that the work that was done was quality work.

Shopping for a camera lens can definitely be a daunting experience.  Before you make a commitment on a used unit, consider purchasing a rebuilt unit that Canon has repaired to make sure you get the best unit possible for your money.
