Once summer hits, fall isn't to far around the corner and some hunters start looking through all their waterfowl gear to make sure everything is looking good and checking to see if anything needs to be replaced. When looking at decoys, you want to look for durability in them. Your decoys take abuse from being tossed in the back of your truck, to sitting in the water and sunlight day after day. Second thing to look for in decoys, is the realism they have. Waterfowl have eyesight ten times better then yours. When looking at decoys, the best decoys should not only look realistic to you but to the birds eye as well. Make sure you are looking at decoys that hides the transition lines and brings all these components together. Last thing to making realism happen is the different flock positions. You want to make sure you don't buy a pack of decoys that are all in the same position and are smaller in size then in real life, most likely you will not have many ducks fly over. Waterfowl are smart, have the flock mentality and they need a little coaxing to fly over.

Last thing to look for in decoys, is the portability. You need to buy decoys that are able to be set up and taken down quickly and this is due to changes in patterns. Where you might be successful one day but might not be the next day. The molded plastic are heavy and bulky but that doesn't mean they can't be taken down in a short amount of time. Some hunters would recommend having a couple different types of decoys as it gives your decoy spread resemblance of a real flock and makes moving around a little less stressful. They also believe that plastic hard molded decoys to be the best resilience when it comes to duck hunting.

Even the cheap decoys have the same and sometimes are better then the really expensive decoys. Also keep in mind that what works today may not work tomorrow.
