On the list of most popular pets,Choosing Your Perfect Cat Articles dogs and cats rank in the top two.  If you choose to get a cat, there are certain things you will need to consider before doing so.  Keep reading to pick up few tips for choosing your perfect cat.

Most people have common house cats.  However, there are many different breeds to choose from.  You can go with one of the natural breeds like British and American short hairs,Maine coon cats, and Persians.  Orientals like Siamese and Burmese are also popular options.

If you choose to get a purebred, then it is vital for you to get one from a responsible breeder.  If not, your cat may be subjected to certain illnesses and physical problems.  For example, Persians can easily develop nasal problems if the breeder was not responsible.  Get one from a breeder that offers guarantees.

One of the main decisions you will need to make is the sex of your cat.  It will not make much of a difference unless you choose not to get your new feline friend neutered or spayed.  There are many benefits of doing so but if you choose not to, there will be certain things you will need to deal with based on the particular sex of your cat.

At certain times of the year, your male cat's behavior will change dramatically.  He will start fighting for territory with other cats if he is kept outdoors.  Felines kept inside will spray their urine everywhere in order to mark their territory.  Females will also change behaviors, and start yelling loudly whenever they go into heat.  Although they will sometimes spray like their male counterparts, it is not nearly as bad as with females.

Just as with any pet, you need to consider the age of the cat you are going to get.  Consider the benefits of getting an adult versus getting a kitten.  Adults are typically litter box trained and possibly neutered or spayed too.

The age of your new cat should also reflect your lifestyle.  If no one is usually home during the day because they are working, getting a kitten or young adolescent may not be in your best interests.  They will have plenty of energy to expend during the day when left alone.  If they are not kept entertained, they may choose to destroy your home.  Therefore, getting an older cat that is less overly energetic may be a better choice.
