A Scanner:  Reduce your paper clutter.  You will get more done with fewer distractions.  And unorganized clutter is a distraction.  A scanner in your home office will give you a leg up when organizing paperwork.  You have two main styles of scanner to choose from for home use.  The first is called a flatbed scanner.  Think of a small photocopier, that is what this style resembles.  Put your item flat on the surface of the scanner to scan it.  This type of machine is perfect for picture or documents you want to ensure don’t get bent or damaged.  This scanner makes the most sense if you are scanning one or two documents at a time.

Option two is the feeder scanner.  Imagine a fax machine, this scanner works a lot like that.   Set up your paper and feed it through the top of the scanner.  It will exit the bottom of the machine.  A feeder scanner is the best for organizing paperwork in large amounts because you don’t have to reload the scanner each time like with a flatbed.  This will increases productivity because you are able to scan in more paperwork quicker.

Ergonomic keyboard:  Upgrading your keyboard may be just what you need to be able to type longer and get more done.  Ergonomic keyboards on the market today come in many different styles.  Some popular choices are split keyboards, angled split keyboards, and contoured keyboards.  Split keyboards position your hands and arms shoulder width apart.  Angled keyboards are actually tilted.  Your pinky is situated lower that your pointer finger.

An ergonomic keyboard is primarily used to reduce the occurance of carpal tunnel syndrome.  As another benefit it should also make typing feel more natural and less awkward.  Making you a faster more proficient typist, so you can get more done!

Child safe keyboards:  Does your home office computer double as your family computer?   If you share your home computer with a 1 to 4 year old invest in a toddler keyboard.  You can substitute a child friendly keyboard for your normal keyboard during your small child’s practice or play time on the computer.  These keyboards are easy for them to use because they are color coded.  Young children can easily find consonants, vowels, and numbers.  They are spill proof and durable so they can take the pounding of a young typist sparing your keyboard from having to take the abuse.  Avoid the risk of having down time because of a broken keyboard.  Many of these keyboards have features that will limit your child’s ability to move throughout the computer and it’s systems.  This means no accidently deleting files and undoing your hard work organizing paperwork! It also limits them to the websites you guide them to.

Computer Mice:  The choices! Mice options are even more varied than keyboards!  Some mice are designe with ergonomics in mind to fit your hand.  Other mice are developed for gamers who will be using them primarily for computer games.  Some work better with laptops and some work better with desktop computers.  You can shop based on your need.

Cable Organizers:  Cables and cord are often a tangled mess in home offices.  Dust collects around your mounds of wires and cords making your office dirty and hard to clean.  A cable organizer will reduce extra cords and give you a cleaner less distracting look.  You won’t have to untangle and identify all your cords first if you want to swap out equipment, it will make that process much easier!

Gear up for success with the right equipment in your office.  Be your most productive while you are organizing home paperwork, paying bills, or even running a small business by creating a clean, relaxed working environment.
