A legitimate home based business has to follow sound business practices to be successful.  Although there are a lot of claims for home based business that require little effort to make you rich, beware.  Any successful business requires at least some work.  A few simple basics can help make your business a success.

First, treat your home based business as a real business.  Make sure you present your business and yourself in a professional manner.  Make sure your attitude is one that says this is my business and not just something you are going to try to see if it will work.  Be positive in all business dealings.

Next, work your home based business.  All worthwhile businesses require time and effort.  Research what other people are doing to be successful.  Make a schedule for your daily routine and follow it.  Spend some time each day in maintaining contact with your existing client base and time for marketing to new potential clients.  Stick to your schedule until it becomes a habit.

Make some time for yourself.  Schedule some time each day for personal development.  Read about successful people.  Find out what qualities they have and emulate the ones that fit for you.  Take some time to think.  Give yourself a few quiet minutes each day to order your thoughts and to create a positive attitude in yourself.  A positive attitude will attract other positive thinkers to your business.

Finally, set up your office space and establish your office boundaries.  One of the incredible perks of owning your own home based business is the time you spend at home with your family.  However, you need to set boundaries.  Make sure your family knows when your office is off limits.  Set aside specific times when you have uninterrupted time where you can have total concentration on your business. 

A home based business can be a tremendously rewarding business endeavor.  It can provide you with an incredible income stream and time to spend with your family.  Do not cheat yourselves out of these rewards.  Follow sound business practices and make your home business the vehicle to your dreams.
