Hammer

This is something that is very useful to have around the house even if one is not a handyman. This is one of the most used tools that one can ever get to have. Other common uses are breaking apart cement,A Handyman’s Important Tools Articles rock or wood into random pieces, prying loose a nail from a surface, prying open or prying loose a wooden slab and many others. It is unconventionally used sometimes in the kitchen to soften tough meat (by hammering) and cracking shells open.

Screwdriver Set

Screwdrivers are also very useful in loosening screws and giving a handyman access to places covered and secured by screws. There are many different types of screwdrivers. There are some that are made specifically for the type of repair that the person might need them for. Eyeglass repair and other small things need screwdrivers that have very small heads. Other heads may be made for allen screws. These are screws that have indentations into which the allen screwdriver is inserted and then turned. They can also be used to open cans of paint as well as scrape off things from surfaces. Doing these things may compromise the head of the tool, making it blunt or deformed to such an extent that it will not work on a regular screw anymore.

Wrench

The wrench is most useful for plumbing jobs and a handyman can do some of the more basic plumbing jobs around as well as some of the more complicated ones. The sizes of wrenches differ and the most commonly used is the 10” ones. These allow the worker to grip the object, be it a tube or whatever piping needs to be gripped well. There are also two common kinds of wrenches, the closed and open wrenches.

Tape Measure

This device is used to measure distance form one point to another. Basically it works like a roll of tape with several corresponding numbers, often in inches and millimeters. It is very useful when measuring an area that needs to be outfitted with wood or any other material which should be cut and placed accordingly. The right measurement is vital on order not to waste the wood or the plastic that will be used. Having the right measurement ensure that the fit will be correct and there is no wasted material.

These are just a few of the basic tools that a handyman uses. There are others such as pencils, wire, knives and others that also have other uses other than what is specified. These can be common household items which can be utilized by handymen.
