So you have decided that you are finally ready to take a step forward and remodel your bathroom. You know that hiring a general contractor is the best choice for moving forward with your desired bathroom. Here are a few tips to take into consideration when choosing a contractor.

Experience

This is one of the most important factors when choosing a contractor to do the work. The contracting industry is easy to enter,Bathroom Remodeling - Giving Your Bathroom Style and Function Articles and some states have few if any licensing requirements. A minimum of 5 years working in the specific trades or design field is important. A general contractor could have 15 years experience working in the trades, but be a new business owner. This can be acceptable, if the rest of the requirements are met below. The Company I worked with in finding a contractor was Find Licensed Contractor which had no problem with this requirement. The contractors they matched with me all had the experience that I could rely on.

Education

Some questions about their education is also important in seeing how well the company fits with your needs. Does the contractor have any education in the trades? Does the contractor continue to be educated in order to to keep up with changing codes and design? These questions are vital in creating the perfect design for your bathroom. My experience with Find Licensed Contractor allowed me to experience the power of being matched with an educated contractor who brought my bathroom ideas to life and further expanded my ideas.

References

Can the contractor provide references of past clients? You should call at least 2 of any named references for feedback. References are important to be able to trust the contractor and the work previously completed. I had no problem with this as the contractors I were matched with supplied me with a long list of references I could go through.

BBB

You can research the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed against the contractor. Though businesses are not required to be registered with the BBB, anyone can file a complaint against any company through the BBB. This is very important in order to understand the reputation and background of the company. All the contractors I was matched with were not only registered with the BBB, but also with other associations which gave me a truly relaxed feeling that I could trust these contractors.

Insurance

Does the contractor carry insurance? If you accept a bid from a contractor, be sure to require a certificate of insurance before the job starts. This is important in the case that anything may possibly go wrong. All the contractors I did business with were licensed, insured, and bonded and that made me feel that everything was secure in going forward with my projects.

If possible, ask if you can look at some of their work. The larger your job is, the more appropriate it is for you to expect to see their work first hand.

One important key to remember is do not use price as the deciding factor. You can get 3 quotes, and the outlined scope and quality can vary widely. In addition, for a contractor to meet all of the above criteria suggests they will be higher priced, as the overhead to maintain licenses and carry insurance are included in their overall costs. Keep in mind - you get what you pay for. If something goes wrong on the job - will that contractor be in business to resolve any problems?

I could not think of any other possible outcome other than the successful outcome from choosing Find Licensed Contractor to match me with the best local licensed reputable contractors for my home projects. It is always better to make sure all your bases are covered and that the contractor you choose is the right one for your needs.
