Bathroom Remodeling: Making Great ChangesThe bathroom is one of the most popular rooms in the house when it comes
to remodeling. After all, you can always guide guests away if something
you do turns out terribly wrong, and that gives people a little more
freedom to play around with some imaginative ideas. If, however, you
don’t have any such ideas, here are some tips that can work for just
about anyone. Changing the Floor If you want to make a big impact on the way your bathroom looks, start with the floor. Maybe that tile or linoleum is getting old. There are a million different designs when it comes to tile flooring, so don’t feel as though you don’t have any choice in the matter. You don’t even have to stick with traditional flooring materials. While wood is not exactly the best choice in many scenarios, it can’t be argued that they don’t give a room a certain charm that would otherwise be missing. If you get the right type with the right kind of waterproofing, it can be every bit as durable as tile. Color You can use color to create illusions. Darker colors tend to make a room look smaller, so keep this in mind when you’re doing your remodeling. It’s seldom that a person complains that their bathroom is too big. If you want to add the illusion of a more wide open area, choose colors that are lighter. Whites and creams make the biggest difference. True, it won’t give you anymore actual room between the toilet and the tub, but sometimes just overcoming a mental hurdle is good enough. The feeling of having a great deal of free space is sometimes all you need. Lights The bathroom should be one of the brightest rooms in your house. You know how a department store has those bright, almost blinding lights? This is what you want to replicate in your bathroom. It may not be pretty in any other room, but here it makes sense. You don’t want to have to squint your eyes when you flip the switch, but going dim is never a good idea. Give yourself enough lighting so that when you want to inspect yourself in the mirror, you don’t have to stand four inches away. Flow Try to come up with an overarching theme you can implement in the bathroom. Some people like to go with a nautical theme, for instance, or a beach theme. You don’t have to go overboard with these designs. Sometimes people shy away from themes like this because they don’t want it to look like a child’s bathroom. But if you keep things simple and tasteful , you can just suggest a theme instead of hitting people over
the head with it.
