Roman blinds are a different kind of blind that is made of material instead of metal or wooden slats. They are divided into sections horizontally and folded over to look pleated. When you raise them or lower them they remain in the same shape and look as if they are folded all the time.

People who choose roman shades generally do so because they think they are more elegant and classy looking than regular drapes or blinds. Especially in formal living areas.

When you are deciding on what kind of roman blinds you want you have to decide how much light do you want to let in. They can be very dark and lined to keep most of the light out,Be Different With Roman Blinds Articles or light and sheer to let the light in. Normally they are darker in the formal areas and lighter in the more casual areas. They can be solid colored, striped, or patterned. Formal areas tend to have the solid, heavier materials, such as brocades or satins, while casual areas usually have light colored patterned or striped material like chintz.

These blinds are usually more expensive than regular blinds because of different reasons. One reason is that they are usually custom ordered from a professional blind and drape store. They have to be measured and fit just right in order to look like they are supposed to. The type of material they are made from is also a cost factor. You can spend several thousands of dollars for them by having them custom made. You can spend considerably less if you buy them already made.

Another part of the expense will be the curtain rods and hardware you have to have for these blinds. You can't use a regular curtain rod. They are made a little differently. And you will need special brackets and braces for the center of the rod if the window is wider than normal. (Anything over about 52' is considered wide)

You can buy them already made at most of the better department stores and retail stores. They will cost considerably less this way, but your choices of materials and colors may be limited by the amount of stock the store has on hand.

You will have more choices and considerably less cost if you make them yourself. Even if you don't know how to sew, you can find instructions on how to make them online and at libraries.

So really you have several options to consider when choosing roman blinds. The cost, the material, the time it will take to have them made versus buying them ready made are all things to think about when buying them. Look your rooms over, decide what color and what kind of material you want. Then you will be ready to decide if you want them made professionally or if you want to buy them at a store. Or if you are really brave, if you want to try to make them yourself.

However you get them, your rooms will look elegant and classy with roman shades in them. Much better than regular drapes or blinds.
