We’ve all seen the glossy styles in home magazines and the expensive furniture used to create the look,Budget Designer Style Articles but what if you are a small budget and there is little chance of ever being able to afford these items unless you happen to win the lottery.  With the few tips outlined here you will be well on your way to getting the designer look at a fraction of the cost.

Feature Walls

Designers love feature walls and the secret to getting the look right is all about the depth of colour.  If we take the modern trend for black feature walls going for a true black wall will add dramatic impact, especially if all your other walls are white, however if you are unsure of heading into such a dramatic and potent colour then you can try tints of black such as navy or charcoal, so that is slightly restrained.  Don’t forget to break the wall up with bold blocks of colour such as wall art or for those who love sleek finishes; go for black and white photographs.  To make sure enough light is entering the room, place a mirror on the feature wall to reflect the light as dark walls can soak up the available light.

Expensive Hotel Bedroom

What makes a hotel room look fabulous the moment you enter it?  It’s the opulence the crispness and of course the sense of luxury, yes this look can be expensive but you can make a dramatic impact to your bedroom without having to blow the whole budget on buying new bedroom furniture or completely redecorating.  All you need is a chic headboard, not just any headboard but an oversized one.  To get the best impact you will need an extra-tall headboard with a bold patterned colour and if your budget does not stretch to a new purchase, invest in some padding and a new duvet cover and attach to an existing headboard to get that luxury feel.

Original Art

For that extra touch of glamour for your home, you need some original artwork, but you can forget about buying from your local auction gallery, you need to think about the next up and coming artists the ones who still need to make their name and where better to find them then at college or university art shows.  Or try out the trusted auction sites like eBay to grab yourself a bargain, plus you can also buy direct from the artist instead of using galleries.  If you like the look of an artist’s piece of work in a gallery then try and track them down on the internet, they are bound to have a profile somewhere and you can then see if you can make a deal without the galleries fee.

These simple ideas can make your home look and feel spectacular and for a fraction of the cost designers would spend in creating focal walls, oversized headboards and unique works of art.
