Ceiling fan is a device that coverts mechanical energy into electrical energy. It works on the basic concept of physics. It is known as ceiling fan because it is suspended from the ceiling and uses a motor to rotate it and in return it blows the air. The device was firstly introduced in USA in 1860 but it was not electrically powered,Ceiling Fan- The Basic Necessity For Human Life Articles it used stream of water with a turbine. The first electrically powered ceiling fan was introduced in 1882 by Philip Diehl. Ceiling fan does not involve in the process of cooling air like air conditioner thus it consume less energy.

The Fans for ceiling are responsible only for the movement of air i.e. the blow of air. Ceiling fan that has the mechanism of reverse rotation can cause both heating and cooling effect by reversing the directions, according to the use. In summer the fan blows the air downwards and in winter it pulls it upwards. As these fans are a bit old invention so many varieties of fans have been developed from years with a change in design and energy consumption. Today energy consumption is a major issue so fans are made with a technique of saving energy and so is the electricity bill. And as the standard of living has risen since 18th century, so is the designing of materials, that is the reason for the availability of various designs in such kinds of fans also.

The different types of ceiling fans that are being modified from its origin are: initially cast iron fans for ceiling were used; these fans must be oiled periodically for lubrication. Stack motor fans were also used in order to overcome the energy crises. A belt driven fan uses a belt to rotate the fan. Gear drive, friction drive, direct drive, spinner motors etc are various types of ceiling fans.

A ceiling fan generally weighs between 15 to 50 pounds. The basic design of the fan is a circular motor surrounded by three or four blades and when the switch is turned on it starts rotating and due to the rotation of blades air flows in the room. The basic thing that need to be keep in mind while installing such kind of fan is that it should be minimum 7 feet above the ground for safety purpose otherwise if someone raise his/her hands in the air then his/her hands might come in contact with the fan and it can lead to an injury. One more thing should be considered, that is the weight of the blades, and either it is balanced or not. If the weight is not balanced than the wobbling effect can occur.

A ceiling fan is a boon in those areas that are a bit hotter and even in summers. People generally use these fans in their house and work areas for the flow of air. Many large companies manufacture these fans with a big range of design and efficiency and so the prices fluctuate according to the use. People buy fans according to their budget and requirements.
