People think of an electrician only when there is something wrong with the building or electrical wiring. There are actually four areas where there are different types of professionals. These areas are residential,Electrician - Four Major Kinds of Jobs Articles commercial, light industrial and industrial wiring. In all aspects, the professional needs to have a license and be qualified for the work that is assigned to him or her.

Residential

In this aspect, the electrician basically wires the house or residential building. He works with or for a contractor who hires him for his skill, experience and knowledge. In many cases, the electrical professional works for one single contractor and the many projects that they are currently doing. There is usually a leader or head that reviews and understands the many designs that may be needed for each residential building. Some of those who practice within this field may not necessarily work for a contractor but instead work for a team. Many companies specialize in HVAC systems that require the use of electricity. Although contractors install the heating, ventilation and air condition system, some of the electrical experts are needed to actually repair or maintain them even as the building or house has been made. These professionals are known as service electricians. They are the more commonly seen professionals because they deal with the basics. They can install, repair and maintain electrical appliances and fixtures that may be needed in the house.

Commercial

In the commercial field, an electrician focuses on the wirings and systems of a structure for business and commercial uses. The capacities of the wirings and electrical systems for this kind of use are usually higher than those of a residential building. This is because some systems used for structures and buildings are more heavy duty than those used in residential houses. There are also other systems that need experts in electrical fields, such as elevators or computerization of security. Other commercial endeavors may be the connections of the structure to the actual supply from the agency that supplies electricity. The professionals that work in this field deal with appliances, gadgets and fixtures that are commercially sound and appropriate. They need to assess the capacity of the appliances and gadgets as well as that of the current coming into the structure.

Light Industrial and Industrial Wiring

Both of these fields are somewhat similar. The worker that deals with industrial electricity deals with large amounts of electricity. There has to be some caution when dealing with this amount. The workers are usually linemen who work for the supply company and deal with the any aspects of installation, maintenance and repair of the electrical supply. Industrial wiring is a sensitive matter because electrical current can be dangerous of mishandled. The suppliers often will not connect to any commercial or residential structure or building without the supervision and help of a qualified, certified and duly registered electrician. This is why it is important to have undergone the necessary training and education to be an electrical professional.
