Garage Organization Tips

Do you find yourself constantly stumbling over old ladders, bikes, and other items in order to find some sentimental treasure while your vehicle sits on the street or out in the driveway? If your garage is beginning to resemble something similar to a junkyard, you may want to consider taking the time to organize it properly. Having a properly organized space allows for more room, less stress, and the ability to use it for an area other than storage. In this article, we will outline a few tips to help you through the process.

Step 1 – While it may seem like a daunting task at first, you will have to begin somewhere. Start by sorting through the clutter. Throw away any broken or damaged items and start a pile for pieces you wish to sell.

Step 2 – Spend your time reorganizing the items you will be keeping. Put like items in designated piles such as auto parts, tools, and sports items. This will allow you to sort through the things you will be getting rid of much easier, while evaluating pieces you might want to keep.

Step 3 - Invest in storage bins, such as stackable plastic containers for smaller items like hand tools, holiday decorations, and gardening supplies. Purchase lockable containers for valuables or items that may be harmful to kids, such as power tools.

Step 4 – Gather your rakes, folding chairs, and shovels and hang them from posts on the walls. Not only will this free up a bit of space, but it will allow easier access to these items when needed.

Step 5 – Install hooks on the ceiling from which to hang bikes. These can be placed on the sides of the garage, or over the hood of the car. Another option is to purchase a bike rack for multiples, which can be easily installed and accessed.

Step 6 – If you have a larger backyard, consider purchasing or building a shed. Once in place, use this area to store various items such as gardening supplies, the lawn mower, and various tools.

Step 7 – Once everything has been separated, put your keep items into place and hold yourself a garage sale with the items you no longer need. Not only will this help in ridding your garage of clutter, but it can also provide a little extra cash as well. Use this cash to finance your storage bins or the shed, if you go that route.

And there you have itArticle Search, grab your keys and park your darling vehicle in the sheltered area of your newly organized garage!
