Garage shelves are a small but important part of coping with the clutter and mess that is so often a part of our everyday lives. For better or worse,Garage Shelves Help us Avoid Mike Droppings Articles our modern style of living means dealing with lots of stuff that has to be stored somewhere. Are you one of those who tends to just dump your things down with a casual mental note as to where you left it, only to later go through the frustration and irritation when you can't remember where you put something? Or are you one of those people who has great intentions to finally put up some storage solutions but never quite seems to get around to it? If so, take note and resolve to do something about the stuff and clutter in your garage.

Here's a humorous story to think about before I tell you more about the value of garage shelves. I once had a roommate at college named Mike who was the master clutter boy. He would come into the apartment and drop his coat, books, or whatever else he was carrying onto a chair, in a corner, or just on the floor somewhere. This habit became a source of irritation to the other 5 of us living in the same apartment. We tried all sorts of ways to get him to stop this bad habit. Eventually, we started referring to these little stashes and dumps as "Mike droppings". I always got such a kick out of that. It was funny, but was just enough to get him to stop doing the dump and run thing. Sometimes a little harmless humiliation goes a long way! This little story illustrates how mindless we can be when it comes to how we organize and care for our things. I don't think Mike was being deliberately rude, he just didn't think about it. A little humor and teasing went a long way in this case, but it may not be enough if you are trying to get someone in your own home to stop adding to the problem.

Like Mike, we all have a tendency to just add our stuff to a pile without much thought. Teasing someone else, or ourselves, may not always work. We need real solutions to the storage problems we face. Unfortunately, the garage is probably the most common place for mindless dumping to happen in our homes today because it is out of the way of our normal routines in the house and is easy to forget once we shut the garage door behind us. What many people are starting to realize is what a pleasant space the garage can really be with a little effort. Adding some garage shelving is just part of that effort. There are all sorts of storage solution ideas that we can use to get control of the "droppings" in the garage. Cabinets and hutches, carts and tables, racks and hooks, lifts and overhead bins, all help us in the effort to organize and more fully enjoy an uncluttered life in the garage. But none of those ideas does quite what garage shelves can do.

The beauty of garage shelves is that they are totally customizable, long-lasting, and affordable. The come in metal, wood, plastic, and other materials. They can be fixed or adjustable. They get stuff up off the floor, make it easy for us to store things where they belong, and save us lots of frustration when it comes time to find that certain something when needed again. Garage shelves are not gimmicky, they are the real thing. They help us avoid "Mike droppings", and that has got to be a good thing!
