When you are ready to move,Hire Movers or Move Yourself? Articles you face many decisions. After your new home has been purchased, the carpeting replaced, and your kids’ schools chosen, you face one more decision: will you hire movers or handle the move on your own? Both decisions have their own benefits and drawbacks, so you will have to decide for yourself whether the cost of a professional moving crew is worthwhile to your situation, or if you would be better served handling it yourself.

First, you need to understand that moving yourself may be more affordable, but it is not free. You will still need to rent a moving truck, buy boxes and packing material, and probably feed the people who help you move. You will also have to take a lot of time off of work, and that will eat into your paycheck if you don’t have paid vacation days to use. So as you consider the cost factor, make sure you understand all of the costs associated with the do-it-yourself option.

Doing it yourself does have some benefits. Because you will be solely responsible for moving everything in your home, you will not have to worry about someone mishandling your precious things. If something is broken, you have no one but yourself to blame for it. You can give the utmost attention to your most prized possessions, whereas someone who is a stranger to you might not know

Hiring professional movers has many benefits. First, you will be given direction on the moving process from people who have done it time and time again. Professional moving companies know how to carefully handle your larger and more valuable possessions. You will not have to strain your own back to move your couch, for instance, but instead will be able to watch as someone else does it, and likely does it more safely than you would be able to.

With some companies, you won’t even have to physically pack your belongings. They will do the packing for you, depending on the terms of your contract and your desires. That takes much of the stress and time constraints of moving off of your shoulders. Of course, if you want a more hands-on approach, the movers can simply be in charge of moving the boxes and big furniture after you have packed up everything, depending on your contract.

A professional moving company makes the most sense when you will be moving a long distance. They will load up the truck, handle the long drive, and unload it for you at your new location. All you will need to concern yourself with is moving your family from one house to the next.

In the end the choice depends on your situation, budget, and needs. For some, hiring movers makes the most sense. For others, doing it themselves is ideal. By taking the time to think through your options, you will be better able to make an informed decision that fits the needs of your family.
