If you want to get your home organized,Home Organization Tools – The Basics Articles you will need to have home organization tools to help you do it. Now I do not just mean containers to put your stuff in (although that is part of it). What is far more important than containers is the basic tools you will need in your home organization arsenal. Here is where you need to start.

1. A plan of where you are going. If you want to get to somewhere you have never been, you would not just put the car into gear and start driving. You need a plan of how to get there. The same is true in home organization.

You can not arrive at a perfectly organized house without taking the time to figure out what that looks like for you and how you will get there. Are you going to start with the kitchen? Are you going to take time to organize every day or every week?  So one of the best home organization tools in your toolbox will be a plan.

2. A way to get there. If you want get from point A to point B, you are going to need a way to get there. To go with the example above, if you want to get to a place you have never been before, you will need to decide if you are going walk, drive, ride a bike, etc. In home organization, this means figuring out what you are going to use to arrive at a perfectly organized house.

One of my favorite home organization tools for this is a 3-ring binder. It allows you to categorize and separate out everything that you need to get organized. When I organized my house, I had separate sections for tasks, lists of containers I would need, my organizing time commitment and lists of charity/garage sale items. Maybe this tool will work for you. But what is more important is that you find a tool that will work for you and be your organizing companion on your journey.
