House Cleaning: Bathroom Tips

With so much bacteria build up alongside the fact that many bathrooms are the most commonly shared areas in a home, the potential for messes is massive. Windows and Mirrors

Combine 1/3 cup white vinegar with 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol in a 32 oz. spray bottle. If you require an additional cleaner, add 1 tablespoon of automatic dishwashing detergent. Apply liberally.

Tubs and Showers

Those spots on your glass doors and shower walls are caused by alkaline deposits in the water used. Apply car wax to the doors and walls. Being the both glass and fiberglass are porous materials, the car wax effectively seals these pores, making cleaning all the easier. Reapply the wax twice, yearly.

Clean the showers with an orange citrus-based cleaner, weekly. Spray on, wait about 10 minutes and wipe off. There's no need to scrub when you have a product to do it for you.

Toilets

Trying to come up with a sure fire way to get rid of that ring around the toilet? Once again, it's the alkaline deposits which cause those nasty rings. A quick solution is to pout one or two cups of white vinegar into the toilet monthly.

Sinks

Once each month, pour one cup of baking soda and one cup white vinegar down the drain. Let the mixture sit for an hour and flush with warm water. During the hour, the combination will fizzle away the majority of the buildup. This will also work in tub, shower, and kitchen sink drains as well!

Faucets

Water deposits will, over time, build up around drain areas and faucets. Place a paper tower soaked in white vinegar around the faucet. Now plug the drain, pour an additional 1/2 cup of vinegar in the sink and wait. After about twenty minutes drain the mix and scrub the remainder with a stiff bristled toothbrush.

Mildew

Keeping ahead of mildew buildup is a chore you'll never regret. Every six months or so, spray the ceiling in your bathroom with a 50/50 solution of water and hydrogen peroxide. Peroxide is a safe bleach which you won't have to worry about harming your lungs or the environment.
