Waterproofing paints must be used only on barren walls. If there is any preexisting paint left behind, you must first strip it. If you do not, the paint will not adhere properly.

If your basement is already experiencing some leakage, you must first determine the cause before trying to deciding on any basement waterproofing techniques. Tape a piece of aluminum foil to one of the walls in your basement. If it is wet on the side facing the wall after leaving it for a day, it means you have leakage. If itís wet on the side facing the room, you have a condensation problem.

To do so, simply go to your local home improvement store and purchase the sealant that is right for your type of cracking. If you are unsure as to what kind to buy, ask a sales associate. When you get home, inject the cracks with the sealant. Let it dry for the recommended amount of time before adding a second coat. Go back to patch up any missed spaced when it has completely dried, and you should be good to go!
