No one is going to try to get you to believe that moving is an easy process. No matter how much help you have or hire, it's going to be a stressful time. But there are a few things you can do to reduce that stress and make the process as pleasant as possible. By implementing these tips, you can get through the process with your sanity, family, and belongings intact.

Start Early

One of the biggest mistake people make when leading up to the move is to wait until the last minute to get started. You can save yourself a great deal of headache (and backache) by starting a month out from the date. Get your schedule squared away. Most importantly, start packing. Get your boxes from whatever source you chose and start putting away the things you don't anticipate needing on a daily basis. If you find yourself coming across a lot of stuff you haven't used in years, you may want to consider getting rid of it altogether. The fewer belongings the movers have to handle, the less it will cost you.

Hire Quality Movers

If you are planning to hire professional movers to help you get your stuff out of your house and into your new one, you need to start your search early. If you wait until the weekend before you are planning to move, you could find your choices limited. By starting your search early, you will have the opportunity to compare rates, talk to several companies, and do your research. Read some reviews and make a decision that will make your moving day easier, rather than harder. The point of hiring a company is to take some of the stress out of the situation. If you make a bad decision, you could wind up doing just the opposite.

Label Your Boxes

If you thought packing was a hassle, just wait until you start unpacking. Unpacking can be an almost insurmountable chore if you don't have a good system. That system starts with labeling your boxes. By doing so, the movers can help you put the boxes in their proper place as they drop them off at your new residence. Unpacking is still going to take some time, but it will be much easier if you already have an idea about where everything goes ahead of time. Don't get into the trap of creating a bunch of "misc" boxes. You may as well not bother labeling!
