Moving can be a big job for an individual,Moving - DIY or Hire a Pro? Articles couple or family. While some people would rather just load up their own pickup truck and haul multiple loads, this isn’t always an option for everyone. There are pros and cons to doing it yourself as well as hiring a professional team of movers. Here are some things to think about.

Doing it yourself positives:

- Less expensive: Probably the number one reason that people decide to go it alone when it comes to moving is because of the reduced cost factor. If the ones relocating have a truck, large muscles and lots of friends who are willing to help, this can be an option.

- Do it whenever you feel like it: Doing it alone means jumping in and getting the job done whenever. Hiring a company will entail making an appointment.

- Handle your own stuff: If a homeowner is extremely meticulous about certain treasured belongings, being a DIY mover will ensure that only the owner will handle the fragile stuff.

DIY negatives:

- If a person has to rent truck, it costs more: If a person doesn’t own a trailer or hauling vehicle, he or she will have to rent one. This can be costly and challenging if a person hasn’t driven a big vehicle before.

- Heavy stuff: Okay, a person may think they’re pretty strong. They may work out at the gym and everything. Unfortunately, furniture and appliances are heavy to the nth degree.

Friends may feel put upon. Let’s face it; most people are busy enough these days with their own weekend chores.

Leaning on them to help you move might be too much to ask.

Calling-a-professional positives:

- They have equipment: The pros have everything they need – packing supplies, trucks, trailers, dollies and more. They can get the job done in no time.

- They have experience: Fragile heirlooms might be better left in the hands of movers who pack these items every day. Just because an owner adores a belonging doesn’t mean they know how to properly cushion it for a move.

- They have muscles: These guys and gals develop muscles because they are schlepping couches and refrigerators. They have the right muscles for the job, not just the ones that look good in tank tops.

Negatives of pros:

- More expensive: This is probably the number one reason that could be listed as a “con.” Let’s face it; they’re going to do all the work – of course it’s going to cost more. If a person’s budget can handle it, it may be well worth it. Moving is stressful enough without having to do all the physical labor, too.

- Have to schedule: Yes, a homeowner needs to schedule in advance in order to get this task done. An estimator will need to come out to provide estimations of how much the job will entail, then the date will be scheduled to suit both company and owner.

There are pros and cons of both DIY moving and hiring a professional team from a local company. Each individual will have to decide what’s best for his or her situation.
