Charcoal can whiten your teeth if you apply it everyday for once a month, believe it or not.

My grandmother had a host of them for different ailments. Some of course were far-fetched concoction she invented. She used crush malaria tablets in small amounts of water for instance, and then tip them down her chickens' throat when they were sick. If we her grandchildren felt poorly too, be it with malaria, hey fever, migraine, or even tooth ache, she would find some way of applying Mentholatum ointment to our ailments.Two remedies I can however attest to work was egg yolk for burns and charcoal to whiten teeth.I remember once falling over in her kitchen and tipping some boiling water over me. I must have been about 6 years old. I was screaming in agony. My Grandmother quickly took my shirt off, cracked some eggs and made me lie on my stomach and on her lap. She applied the yolk generously all over my back. The effect was instant and soothing. Within a few days the scar were gone.Using charcoal to clean our teeth was something we did regularly too under her supervision. She would crush some charcoal in a small stone mortar with a pestle adding just enough water to keep the mixture thick but smooth. She would then gives all a little bit of the mixture, which we would apply onto our teeth with our fingers. We would leave the chalky substance on for a few minutes and then brush our teeth with chew-sticks, previously chewed and frayed at the ends. Once we were done, she would make us rinse out our mouth with a lot of water, making sure we got rid of all the charcoal. Our teeth would sparkle for days.Charcoal can also be used to clean very smooth stone or dentine-based surfaces around the house.
