Just because you've never had a home break in, doesn't mean you won't. Do you know the statistics surrounding home invasions and burglaries? They may just make you think twice about whether you need a home security system.

That’s a good question.  It deserves a good answer.

Think about this: on a larger scale,Should I Have a House Security System? Articles isn’t the local police and/or sheriff’s department a measure of home security provided by the local community and funded by your taxes?  Apparently we think it’s important on that level.  But these obviously have their limitations, don’t they?  It would be great if a policeman would be parked outside of my house every night – that would sure deter any burglars!  But that isn’t possible.

A home security system costs too much!  At least that’s what a lot of people think.  It is true that a person could shell out a lot of dollars if they so chose.  The fact is, there are many, affordable home security systems available.  There are “do it yourself” home security systems.  There are actually many absolutely free tips and techniques that can be applied to greatly enhance a home’s security.

The point is, don’t let cost be the sole deciding factor when it comes to the consideration of your home’s (read *family’s*) security.

Here are some facts to ponder:
* Over 2,153,464 burglaries take place each year in the United States

* 740 burglaries per 100,000 people - increasing each year

* A burglary takes place every 12 seconds - with average loss per break-in at $1,626

* 62.4% of all burglaries result from forcible entry into a home

* 65.8% occur at home residences

* 62% of all burglaries take place during the daytime

* 60% of all burglaries occur while owners are home

* Homes without security systems are 3x more likely to experience a burglary

* You can save up to 20% off your home insurance premiums with a home security
    system

Whether or not, and also to what degree, you insure personal home security is an individual decision.  It's really all about peace of mind for yourself and your loved ones.  Choose wisely.
