Sprucing up Your Garage Floor

A garage floor is a pretty exciting topic. It often comes up at dinner parties and family get togethers. It is common to spend hours discussing the nuances of garage flooring with your office workers and church associates. It really gets the creative juices flowing and there is nothing like it for stimulating a sense of health and well being.

Obviously, a garage floor is much more mundane than all of that. It is something we casually drive on, drop things on, spill on, and rarely give any thought to at all. And who can blame us? It is a hum drum, gray, hard, and uninviting surface that begs to be ignored and abused. The question I pose to you now is, does it have to stay that way? The short answer is, no. The longer answer is, well, longer....

When it comes to your garage floor, you don't have to settle for normal and boring. Let's take a look at some of the cool products out there that you can use in your garage to bring life and functionality to it.

The first product I want to tell you about is epoxy paint. This is a paint that can add color and durability to your garage floor. It is simple to apply. Just remove everything from your garage and clean the floor. Use the special cleaner to really remove grease and grime before applying the paint. Then, when you are ready, apply the epoxy paint with a roller. Many manufacturers offer different types of grit that add traction to the finished surface.

Next, an exciting product for your garage floor is color tiling. These are basically interlocking, colored, rubber tiles that can be laid down in whatever creative pattern you can come up with. Just determine what you want your finished floor to look like and start laying down the tiles. Once you are done you will have created a floor that will not only look bright and cheerful, but will also offer a new level of protection. If you drop or spill something on it, it's no big deal. If one of the tiles actually becomes damaged you can just replace that tile rather than the whole floor.

Finally, a garage floor mat may be just the thing your garage needs. These mats come in many sizes and go a long way to protecting your floor. Your vehicles can drive on these mats without damaging them. The primary benefit of using mats is the protection the floor gets from dripping oil and other liquids that are a normal part of parking a car or truck in your garage.  These mats come in a variety of patterns as well, so at least there is some variety to how you can make your floor look.

Choose one or more of these options and your garage floor will never be the same. You can opt for basic protection with garage mats of various sizes and textures. Or, you can brighten things up a bit by going with tiles. Choose red, blue, white, or black to create a fun and functional surface. Of course, you can just paint your floor with epoxy paint if you want to give it basic protection. No matter what you go with, it will be much better than the basic concrete you likely have now. Just go for it!
