The Ultimate Guide to Fitting a Door Lock

A door lock could be the most important thing when it comes to the security of your home.

Things needed for fitting a door lock:

1. Drill
2. Flat bit
3. Tape measure
4. Cylinder rim lock
5. Screwdriver
6. Masking type
7. Drill bit set
8. Junior hacksaw
9. Chisel
10. Mallet
11. Ruler
12. Pencil

Once you got all the above tools, then follow the instructions below and start on fitting the lock:

Marking the position: You will have a paper template provided to the door, tape it and dot the lock body and screw hole positions.

Drilling the hole: - You will need a wide flat bit (preferably 32mm or 1.25in) for drilling the hole for the lock, get your door on a portable workbench and start on drilling the hole. Make sure to set your drill on high speed, as a low speed can cause of splinter. Double check the hole either the cylinder can be fitted as it needed to be or not.

Fitting the lock together: - Make holes for screw fixing using a narrow drill bit and then fit the mounting plate to inside of the door carefully. Find the measuring bar against the manufacturer's instructions to pass the cylinder through the door from the external. To make the lock body more suitable and fit on the door, simply keep the casing in place and draw around the plate that covers around the edge of the door.

Finishing: Fit the lock together on the back side of the door and fix all the screws. Twice check each thing if they works smoothly or not, especially check the key. In the end, mark the position of the bolt on the door frame to make sure the staple is perfect onto the door frame.
