Moving and relocation of furniture,Time and Cost Saving Tips for Home Moving Articles appliances and belongings can be a painful task for many of us. But proper planning and decision making can help cut cost. There are two popular options available for home relocation which are do it yourself and hiring a moving company.

Well, both options have both merits and demerits. For example, doing it yourself can be a good choice to cut cost if you are moving to nearby area or when having very few items to relocate or when there are some volunteers ready to help you or when you have plenty of time. Hiring a moving service is a good option when there are many items to move or you have many fragile and sophisticated appliances or in a hurry.

Usually the charge levied by movers depends on weight of furniture or packets and the distance to be travelled. The cost can increase substantially when the moving includes stairs or elevators and when the home is inaccessible to large trucks that movers use. Also, the charge may be higher for moving very heavy items and for dissembling and then assembling sophisticated or fragile items.

The overall cost and time involved in moving your home can be saved considerably if you follow some basic steps.

  1. Finding the right movers: get quotes from three or more movers and look for local references and customer satisfaction. Choose the service that has experience and expertise in handling furniture especially wooden, leather and glass items.
  2. Packing and unpacking small things yourself: this helps in reducing overall workload and to better negotiate with the moving company. Packing small items is easy, but may require some time because of the higher number of items.
  3. Opt for off-peak days for moving: movers may be busy on weekends and month-ends. So opting for off-peak days and hours can help you get discounts and faster hassle-free moving.
  4. Get insured: most movers offer insurance cover at a small additional cost which may be a better option if your insurance does not cover property damaged in transit.
  5. Follow basic steps: like settling bills, backup of data from computers, disconnecting telephone, gas, internet and television services but arranging same at new location, safe-keeping of valuable items like jewelry and documents, keeping medicines and food with you and informing the authorities of both your existing and new area.

Moving and relocation require good planning and proper implementation. Anticipation and planning help in successful and cost-effective shifting.
