What is a Breakfast Nook Set?
Breakfast nook sets are groupings of furniture for the kitchen that include a breakfast nook table and some type of breakfast nook seating. The seating is usually some combination of benches and chairs. There are several different styles of breakfast nook sets so you can find something that will complement your home no matter what your style.
A breakfast nook set is a grouping of furniture meant for the breakfast nook or eat in kitchen. Breakfast nook furniture usually consists of a breakfast table and some type of breakfast nook seating. The seating can be chairs, benches, or a combination of both. Breakfast nook sets come in many different styles. The styles vary based on the shape of the breakfast nook table, the type of seating, and the materials used for both the table and the seating arrangements.
A breakfast nook table should be as large as possible in order to accommodate as many people at the table as possible. Most families eat a majority of their meals in the kitchen and nook set needs to be able to hold the entire family plus a guest or two at any given moment. To find out how large your table should be you need to first measure the dimensions of your breakfast nook area. If the nook is roughly square or rectangular then the measurements are length and width. If the kitchen nook is roughly circular, you need to measure the diameter. Once you have those dimensions, you should subtract three feet from each. Three feet taken away from the length and width will give you the maximum dimensions of a rectangular breakfast nook table and three feet away from the diameter will give you the diameter of a round kitchen table. The three feet is to allow eighteen inches of clearance on all sides for pulling chairs in and out.
The table can be made of any number of materials. Wood is probably the most popular, but by no means your only option. Wooden kitchen furniture tends to fit into a country style or traditional style kitchen rather than a modern one. If your kitchen is modern, then you might want to consider a table made from metal or glass. Chrome is a very popular material for modern furniture and it is quite common to find a table with chrome legs and chrome trim and a tabletop made of some kind of plastic or laminate.
Seating for the breakfast nook should be determined by your family’s needs. For example, if you have a large family and limited space then you will want bench seating because it can hold more people. On the other hand, if your family is grown and only adults sit at your breakfast nook table, then chairs might be more comfortable for everyone. Benches do not provide as much support and can be uncomfortable for larger individuals. If you have a full household and you are always looking for extra storage space, a breakfast nook with a storage bench could be the solution. However, benches require that people sit rather close to one another and it might be uncomfortable for strangers and various guests to sit so intimately with people they do not know very well. Because there are benefits to both, it is common to find a combination of both types of breakfast nook seating.
Just like with the tables, breakfast nook sets can include many different materials of construction on the breakfast nook chairs and breakfast nook benches. The legs and trim on the seats will most likely match the table, but the upholstery on the seats can vary widely. A leather breakfast nook set will have leather upholstery and can fit quite well into a modern kitchen and the set might include that chrome trim. If your home is formal, you might have rich and heavy upholstery to match the décor in the rest of the home despite the fact that the breakfast nook is usually informal.
