Winterize Your Unit To Avoid A Costly AC Repair

Want to avoid a costly ac repair next year? Well, if you are in to saving money then you probably do want to avoid such things. And, since the season for using the air conditioner is winding down and coming to a close many people completely forget all about cooling their homes.

Of course, this is because everyone is happy to usher in those nice autumn breezes. No one is really thinking about ac repair or the hot doldrums of summer any longer. And so, as fall sets in, people tend to use the air conditioning systems less and less. And although there are still some warm days ahead, the majority of the autumn season will be cool. So, with this in mind it may be a good time to think about winterizing your air conditioner or air conditioning unit.

Most people can avoid a costly ac repair by always tending to their system at the beginning, middle and end of the cooling season. By making sure you attend to the little things you can make the most of your system and keep the ac repair professionals at bay. Putting a few little items on your to do list will make sure your system is running for years to come.

Since some people have central air and others have window units, both kinds of systems need to be tended to during the early fall. If you have a window unit, all you need to do is to remove it from the window and store it in a clean and dry place for the winter. However, if you have central air you will need to add just a couple more steps to your list.

First and foremost, make certain that you check out your condensing unit. This is the unit that sits outside of the home. Take a look at it and inspect it for any debris, weeds or overgrown plantings that may interfere with the unit or try to grow inside the unit. For obvious reasons, you do not want anything getting inside the unit as this will harm some of the components of your system. Next, take your garden hose or sprayer and set it to the highest setting and give the fan blades a good hose off. Also, be sure to get any other components, like the coils a good rinse as well.

Once you have determined that your condenser is completely free from dirt or other summertime growth it is ready to be winterized. Winterizing your condenser unit is actually quite simple at this point with a condenser cover. And not unlike putting a jacket or parka on yourself when the weather gets a bit nippy, the same holds true for your condenser. Simply prepare the cover and place it over the condenser unit. Owning a cover for your unit is essential for many reasons. And if you do not have one then it is a good idea to go and purchase one. A condenser cover for your air conditioning unit will add to the life of your system an hopefully put off ac repair. This is because over the coming months harsher weather takes hold. This means that as the leaves fall, rain, sleetBusiness Management Articles, and temperatures drop down your system will take a beating if left without any protection.
