If you’re about to start your own blog,Differences between Wordpress and Joomla Hosting Articles you may have heard a lot about both Wordpress and Joomla, the two most popular applications used for blogging. The debate about which one is the best is one that’s been going on for years, and isn’t likely to stop any time soon. So, what is the difference? And which should you choose for your blog?

Both Joomla and Wordpress are open source software that can be used for creating and maintaining blogs. Wordpress comes in two different formats: Wordpress.com, which is software that allows you to create a limited blog for free with free hosting; and Wordpress.org, software that is still free, but is much more customizable and requires separate Wordpress web hosting. Joomla on the other hand, only comes in one format and like Wordpress.org, that format requires separate web hosting.

For most businesses, the fact that additional web hosting will also be required is not a factor in the decision because, with the size of professional websites, that would be a requirement with any kind of blogging software. So, what should you be looking for then?

If you’re looking for a file structure that’s easy to use and easy to understand, Wordpress is known as having one of the most comprehensible layouts there is. For those that aren’t technically-minded, the internal structure of Joomla can seem confusing and maybe even somewhat cluttered. Joomla also took a significantly long time to start releasing updates for their software; and now that they have, some think that the constant downloading and installing is tedious. Wordpress on the other hand, while it still has updates, they can be installed relatively quickly and aren’t released in overwhelming numbers.

So does Joomla have any benefits over Wordpress? In fact, it does, or it wouldn’t be one of the two most popular types of blogging software on the market.

If you’re looking for a bold, intricate design to your website that truly won’t be seen anywhere else, Joomla is what you’re looking for. The templates available with Joomla are nothing short of stunning, and you won’t find them anywhere else. This is partly due to the massive library of extensions that is available, only through Joomla, and that will help you do just about anything you want or need to your blog.

Joomla also has some of the best privacy and security settings available. When working within this software you’ll be able to set the security for group management, permissions, and private content to name just a few.

Joomla is also known to be extremely powerful, and capable of handling even the biggest e-commerce websites. While Wordpress can handle a certain degree of e-commerce, it does become more difficult when there are a lot of business transactions going through the site.

When it comes to your business’ blog, there are going to be a number of factors deciding which types of software and web hosting you use. When it comes to deciding between Wordpress and Joomla, the answer is still “it depends.” If you have a large e-commerce site, or just need a phenomenal design, Joomla might be the best option for you. But, if you need an interface that’s more user-friendly and easy to understand, Wordpress could be the better option.

You’ll need to examine both the needs of your website, and your business, before deciding which one is better for you.
