We've made long strides in the way we stay connected. First, it was the telephone, then the mobile phone and now the wireless internet. These forms of communication have allowed us to reach farther and farther and stay connected to family, friends and business. Society has grown dependent on these technologies and continues to demand more.

One group that depends on wireless is students. Upon registration into a college one is given an e-mail address to receive necessary information regarding classes, requirements and any changes that occur on campus. This is crucial especially for those students taking on line classes, where all interaction in taken place on the internet. Professors place the class syllabus, assignments, extra readings and exams on the internet. It's a vital means of communication. Even if you attend classes on campus a fair amount of information is still placed on the internet.

There are also online schools where the entire curriculum is online. The students apply for school online and then attend online classes. All of the correspondence from teachers is through e-mail and through their class websites. For these the requirements for attendance is a little different than from a regular class where the teacher calls roll. The students and instructors must log in a certain amount of hours and check in on a regular basis with each other.

It can feel impersonal going to college in this way but it does make it more available to people. There are plenty of students that would have no way of moving and paying the expense of living away from home to attend college some other place. Online schools are their only means of gathering an education and earning a degree.

Being wireless is by no means just for students. It is something that can make a lot of difference to people for many different reasons. The first thing that comes to mind is keeping in touch for those that are really isolated, but there is much more than that to offer. People can also work online and do research for many things that they will need to find out about in life.
