In live football,Superb Running Strategies for Madden 10 Articles the standard strategy is run the ball. In Madden, its not nearly as important, but being able to pound the rock will make sure the D cant lock in on your throwing attack. Taking advantage of when the defense is in alignments that dont favor working against the running game is important to keeping the defense off their game and being an excellent offensive attack. There are a few strategies to ensure your running success in Madden NFL 10.

Be aware your matchups. Know which of your offensive linemen are good and not, and know what defenders are great and not. This should give you an idea where you should be moving the rock, and where you should not.  This doesnt mean run ALL the time to these sides, as the D will be aware, but it should give you a starting point for where you run focus should be.

Line up the men in the box. Be cognizant any off-kilter changes you defense makes. If they split out a 3rd LB directly over the WR, they probably have a letdown where that linebacker vacated. If their safeties are too out there and you have a excellent offensive line and a fullback, you should be able to move the ball well. On the same note, if theyre stuffing the line of scrimmage with their safeties, be worried and play action and chuck the rock to get them out of this alignment.

Dont pick draws/counters. These plays normally do not work in Madden and still do not. They each will work SOMETIMES, but their inconsistency is not something you want to rely on in a close game of Madden. Stick the more standard move-ahead runs, halfback dives, and Off-Tackles that will consistently give you large gains.

Have a excellent RB! Using a great running back like Adrian Peterson or Darren Sproles can make up for poor choices and help you break tackles where nothing was available. Use your hit stick every time to avoid tackles, but be cognizant, as trying to do this too often will leave you open to fumbles.
