Arlington,Dangers in the Water Articles Virginia joins Colorado in fearing its water supply. Differing from Colorado’s fracking spill, Arlington’s spill occurred by a standard, common vehicular accident.

Early on Sunday, Don’s Johns sanitation services truck was struck by another car. The second vehicle hit the truck on Arlington Boulevard and caused it to fall over. The entire contents of the sewage truck had reportedly leaked out onto the streets.

The real danger lies in to where the sewage material traveled. Fire officials have stated that 1,800 gallons of human waste have spilled into the storm drains of the streets. Because of this, the water that travels through and around these drains is likely to be contaminated.

The Department of Environment Services in the county has warned residents to avoid the water until a more thorough investigation can be made. The waters of Four Mile Run between Columbia Pike and the Arlington County line are the ones that have risks of being polluted.

The other car was carrying five people. All passengers were taken to the hospital for injuries and their current conditions are unknown.

At this time, the cause of the accident is still being investigated.

The spill in Colorado took place months ago, but the mess has still not been cleared entirely. Residents of the state are complaining about the processes, opposing the decision to have the company that generated the spill clean up the mess as well. The affects of the benzene pollution in the water that was caused by a fracking accident are still unknown, but continually monitored and anticipated.

Accidents like this are fortunate because there were no fatalities; however, the consequences of the spill are yet to be determined. The notice regarding the water will remain in effect until Wednesday at this point and hopefully the contamination can be cleared up before it causes any harm.
