The Probate Court has files of marriages that transpired since 1805 and it is the court that accepts and validates marriages. The Vital Records Office, on the other hand, keeps files of marriages that transpired between 1952 and 1996. 
A request can be made by completing a request form which can be acquired from the Vital Records office or can be downloaded from their website.
