Marriage Information and Marriage Records from the year of 1952 up to present are available at the state office. Copies of marriage records earlier than the year of 1952 and after the year of 1996 are available only from the county Probate Court where the license was issued. It is by the power of the state law that certified copies of marriage licenses are available to the general public while certified copy of the marriage license application should only be available to the married couples only. Requesting a certified copy of a marriage record must provide a signed request, payment fee and this information. Complete name of the bride and groom, complete date and place of marriage and state the number of copies requested.
One certified copy of a record that is found on the file costs $10.00, additional certifications of same record ordered at the same time costs $5.00 and multi-year search costs $10.00. The office will only accept payments through certified check or money order only and cash on mails is not advisable by the office. The county probate courts were assigned to keep, maintain and update these Marriage License Records and also grant marriage licenses to couples who wish to be married. It is stated by the law that applicants that are below eighteen years of age will need to present parental or guardian consent to be able to get a marriage license. Applicants need to present a valid identity document, passport or a birth certificated for proof of identification. For identifying documents that are printed in different language other than English will need to hire a notary for translation purposes. Marriage licenses fee vary by county and for applicants that has does not want to pay can earn it by attending a premarital education program certificate.
