A man jumped to his death in Oregon over the weekend.
In Oregon over the weekend, a 25 year old man was killed after attempting to cliff jump into the water. The body was finally recovered on Monday.
The accident took place in Cascade Locks at Punchbowl Falls in the Columbia River Gorge on Sunday afternoon. Jason Endicott from Cincinnati, Ohio jumped into the water at the Falls with three other friends, but he never resurfaced.
Search parties went out immediately, but after an evening of not finding anything, they had to call it off late Sunday night. And then on Monday at 12:07 p.m., they discovered the man’s body. Authorities have yet to determine whether Endicott drowned or died from the impact of the jump.
The other three men who jumped with Endicott suffered minor injuries. Two of them could walk on their own, while the third required the help of others to rescue him. He suffered from hypothermia and many of the other campers in the area were found lying on top of him for warmth.
The group called emergency services, but they did not arrive for a couple of hours. This is likely the reason that the body took so long to uncover.
There are huge dangers in cliff diving and authorities in the area strongly advise against it. Though it is thrilling for some, accidents can happen at any time. Endicott is not the first person who has died from the stunt, but we can all help to ensure that there are less future incidents.
