The latest issue comes because a private contractor broke the government rules and the contract drawn up, to download thousands of details concerning criminal records onto a memory stick. The government form of the data is encrypted, but apparently the private contractor decrypted the data before downloading it onto the memory stick. Now the memory stick has been misplaced, putting the government at risk of court filings by at least one advokat over the breach of privacy and lack of security concerning the lost data.
