The A31 going through New Forest may get a new speed limit.

It seems that the councillors of Ringwood in Hampshire are starting to move on the issue of the A31 being a death-trap with too high a speed limit.

Currently,New Forest speed limits Articles the A31, which goes through the New Forest, has a 70mph speed limit. This is normal for an A-road, but not all are created equal. Only experience driving on a road can tell you whether its speed limit in appropriate. It must be said that 70mph is not appropriate for this road.

The figures speak for themselves. Serious injuries and fatalities occur every year in their dozens, and yet the speed limit has remained for this long. Let’s hope that the initiative of the councillors is carried forward, and that it does not take an even more major incident for the speed limit to finally be reduced.

However, there is likely to be a knock-on effect in the form of increased speeding offences in the area while people get used to driving slower on the roads.
