He or she may represent a single client, group, company, or corporation in their defense against charges or criminal behavior either as the result of negligence or malicious intent. He or she may be a public defender, who is assigned to cases by the criminal court system in their jurisdiction. A public defender is assigned to men and women who cannot afford to hire an attorney. However, a criminal defense attorney may be hired or on retainer for a wealthy individual, company, or corporation for legal situations such as this.
Criminal defense attorneys like all lawyers, act as legal counsel, mediators, and court representatives throughout any case. They present evidence in support of their client’s protest of innocence, before a judge and a jury of 12 men and women who must be convinced beyond reasonable doubt of the defendant’s claims. Not every client is without guilt or crime, but it is with the belief that all men are presumed innocent until proven guilty that these lawyers defend with every resource they have. The resources are determined by the pursuit of truth in each case. They are required to clarify all false impression about their client’s character and behavior while presenting their plea with full determination.
