First thing that you need to have is an attorney. When you are charged in crime the whole process can be divided into two parts – simple and complicated. The first part is simple. When you are charged a judge will issue a warrant on you arrest and the local police will send officers who will locate you and arrest you. The officers need to provide the warrant within a short time after the arrest; not immediately of course, it can also be provided to you when you will be brought to the police department. In the police department you will go through few standard procedures like taking fingerprints and completing other procedural requirements. Within a short period of time, usually 48 hours, there will be a court hearing on your case. Before that you will have an opportunity to contact your attorney and have a brief meeting with him. On the court hearing the judge will read the charges against you and you will have to respond as "guilty", "not guilty" or "no contest". But don’t worry if you have responded as "guilty" you can enter a plea of not guilty. This is a very complicated moment and it is better to work hand in hand with your attorney and decide which answer to choose.
