Leadership And Management

Leadership skills are usually considered to refer to management so as managers are those people who should often engage leader duties.

However, there are definite differences between management leadership. Like leadership management evolves numerous skills and much knowledge, but at the same time their purposes for organizations and their employees are different. The management performs control function like monitoring of results against plans. A good manager is like an excellent executor who is able to implement organization goals and a chief tasks aiming to control employees work in ways of quality, effectiveness, timeliness and targets set. Unlike management leadership motivates and energizes people to overcome major political, bureaucratic, and resource barriers. Leaders have the potential of producing extremely useful changes like launching of new products. The management however tends to be predictable by maintaining the status quo.

In establishing directions, leadership develops vision and strategies whereas management establishes detailed steps and timetables for achieving needed results along with allocating resources. With regard to developing network for achieving the goals, leadership involves aligning people, and creating teams and coalitions. The management for achieving the agendas, establishes structure, staffs, and develops policies and procedures to guide people.

Leadership is a science which cannot be mastered if a person himself is not a leader. Leadership requires some human features which are sometimes felt by others instinctively, and they will not follow the person if they cannot see he/she is a leader. A good manager can be learnt even without such human natural features. A leader generates ideas while a good manager knows well how to implement them and control their quality and profitability. So a leader must be born while a manager can be taught, and that is the main difference between them.
