People often like to talk about how the internet changed everything,How Game Marketing Changed Everything Articles and it has. But if there is one major change that has come with the advent of the internet, it is the interactivity of our digital experiences. Nothing encapsulates this better than gaming and game marketing.

Game marketing focuses specifically on marketing video games and the many products related to it. While it may have started out as one thing, many of the greatest marketing innovations have been started or completely changed inside of gaming marketing. Here are just a few.

Game Marketing Rapidly Expanded its Demographics

Picture a gamer. You are likely picturing a very specific type of person. Likely a male, probably a teenager, there may be some other stereotypes thrown in. You wouldn’t be wrong either. There are many, many gamers who look like that. Game marketing used to also cater almost exclusively to that demographic. Then it didn’t.

If you look at who’s gaming today, you’ll quickly realize that almost everyone is a gamer now. Sure, they may not be logging hours on a console in front of a massive television screen or sitting at a desk, but they are absolutely gaming, and game marketing took notice.

Today, game marketing strategies have expanded to appeal to almost everyone because, well, almost everyone is gaming. It’s usually very difficult to take something seen as niche and make it appeal more broadly, but gaming did it and the industry has grown exponentially as a result.

Game Marketing Took Influencers to a Different Level

When you think of Instagram influencers, you probably think of the same thing everyone else does: perfectly edited photos and videos of someone with some sort of product. It could be a mom with her child and a prominently featured product. Game marketing, true to the products being sold, have taken influencer marketing to a whole new, more interactive level.

Gaming influencers, or game marketers, don’t simply post pictures and like comments. They interact directly, chatting with and responding to comments in real time. Sharing their experiences and demonstrating the products that they have been given. No pictures of people enjoying something. Instead, it’s a demonstration of why they love the product. Whether that’s a game, a piece of computer hardware or even the chair that they are sitting in.

Gaming Understands the Importance of a Lifecycle

Movies traditionally have just a couple of weeks to make most of their money. Sometimes much, much less time. Television shows are similar: the few weeks of a show are crucial to seeing how it will perform for the season. Unless of course you are on a streaming platform. Then the amount of time you have to make an impact is even less than a movie. But video games? Their lifecycles have actually been growing while everyone else has been shrinking. The change is largely because of DLC, or downloadable content. Games today add on to the experience through additional experiences, and many gamers are primed to buy in. It is one of the greatest innovations that game marketing has done.

Game marketing is a different beast than regular marketing and requires an expert in the field. If you are interested in the world of gaming marketing, be sure to connect with an experienced agency that can make your product soar.
